Arsenal have agreed to let Laurent Koscielny move to Bordeaux for €5m (£4.6m). Koscielny had been wanting to return to France and had hoped to leave Arsenal for free, but since he still has a year left on his contract, the club insisted on a transfer fee.

Arsenal’s head coach, Unai Emery, had tried to convince the 33-year-old defender to stay with the team. Despite turning 34 soon, Emery believed Koscielny could still contribute. However, Koscielny was determined to leave and even skipped the club’s pre-season tour in the US to push for a transfer.

With Arsenal looking for defensive reinforcements before the transfer deadline, they have shown interest in Juventus’ Daniele Rugani. Juventus, however, are holding out for £50m for the Italian center-back, which may be beyond Arsenal’s budget.

As Koscielny’s departure looms, Arsenal’s plans for the upcoming season are still uncertain.
