Lazar Hayward, a former NBA player, was arrested in Hawaii for reportedly falsifying COVID test documents in an attempt to avoid quarantine.

The 34-year-old Hayward and a companion he was traveling with were taken into custody at Lihue Airport in Kauai after authorities were informed that they had uploaded fake negative COVID test results to Hawaii’s Safe Travels portal, as per Hawaii News Now.

Hayward, who previously played for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA, is facing charges of unsworn falsification. Following their arrest, both individuals were released and escorted back to the airport, where they boarded a flight back to Los Angeles.

Under Hawaii’s regulations, fully vaccinated travelers from the mainland United States can skip quarantine by submitting their vaccination records. Unvaccinated passengers must present a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of their arrival.

During his NBA career spanning from 2010 to 2013, Hayward played for teams like the Washington Wizards, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Oklahoma City Thunder before transitioning to the G League. He averaged 2.9 points and 1.3 rebounds across 72 games in total.
