A video circulating online showing a player at the Little League World Series having cotton placed on his head during a game has elicited a response from league officials. The officials confirmed on Tuesday that following an investigation into the incident, they found that there was no malicious intent behind the actions depicted.

In the viral clip, teammates from the Midwest team were seen placing cotton stuffing on the head of their fellow player during a game against the Orioles and the Red Sox. The incident stirred up a social media frenzy.

Philip Lewis from HuffPost shared the league’s detailed response:

“During the MLB Little League Classic broadcast, a player from the Midwest team was shown with stuffing from a toy on his head. After speaking with the team and examining photos, it was revealed that several players from the Midwest Region were engaging in this activity while enjoying the game. Although only one player was shown on the broadcast, Little League International acknowledges that the actions captured could be interpreted as racially insensitive. Following discussions with the player’s mother and coaches, they reassured us that there was no harmful intent behind what was shown on air.”

The Davenport, Iowa team, representing the Midwest Region, has emerged victorious in their last two matches against the Northwest and Mountain Region representatives, subsequent to a loss to the Great Lakes Region team.

Iowa is scheduled to play again on Tuesday and must win three consecutive games to advance to the final of the United States bracket.
